About

2024 Community On-snow Programs

Snowboard Yukon is committed to facilitating programming across Yukon. On-snow facilities and local leadership are key to these initiatives.

See this season’s initiatives below.

2024 Whitehorse Shredders

Shredders is an on-snow snowboarding program for novice to intermediate riders focused on fun and improving snowboarding skills all over the mountain. Weekly training follows the national Riders curriculum and is presented by coaches certified by the Canadian Snowboard Coaching Program (CSCP). Shredders train in 3 skill-based groups — Green, Blue & Black. The coaches will determine which group suits you best.

Requirements:

  • You must be 8 years old.
  • You must also be able to load and unload the chairlift independently, stop, turn toeside and heelside while snowboarding under control on most runs at Mt. Sima.

If you’re not quite ready for Shredders, we suggest signing up with the Mt. Sima Snow School.

Shredders is a pre-competition program and snowboarders are encouraged to participate with their teammates in fun race and freestyle events on select Sundays during the season. Coaching at Yukon Champs is also included in the program.

The program includes:

  • 8 regular season training sessions
  • 4 coached FUN events

When: Saturdays, Jan 13 – Mar 2, 2024
Time: 12:00 – 3:00 pm

GROM Events: Sundays, Jan 28 & Feb 25, 2024
Yukon Champs: Mar 30 & 31, 2024 (TBC)

Where: Mt. Sima

Fee: $500

2024 Whitehorse Freeriders

Freeriders is a coached program for Yukon snowboarders who are not quite ready for the focus and commitment of the Comp Team and those who want to continue to progress their riding recreationally at their own pace.

Travel, competitions and dryland training are not mandatory at this level, however Freeriders have the ability to customize their training plan by adding some extras to their season on an a la carte basis.

Required Skill Level:

To join Freeriders you MUST have a solid snowboard skill set such as good carving on advanced (black) runs and the ability to safely navigate intermediate (blue) freestyle terrain, (e.g. Coyote Park at Mt. Sima), although it’s ok if you want to skip a feature or two. The Head Coach can let you know if this program is the right fit for you.

The Freeriders coached program includes 8 on-snow sessions at Mt. Sima. If you would also like to participate in 4 fun Snowboard Yukon competitions at Mt. Sima choose Freeriders + Events.

The Freeriders coached program includes:

  • 8 regular season training sessions

When: Saturdays, Jan 13 – Mar 2, 2024
Time: 12:00 – 3:00 pm
Where: Mt. Sima
Fee: $325

– Add On-

GROM Events: Sundays, Jan 28 & Feb 25, 2024
