General

Kids Recreation Fund

The Kids Recreation Fund (KRF) provides Yukon families with a lower income an opportunity to apply for funding for their children (aged 0 -18 years) to participate in sport and recreational activities. The KRF can fund up to $600 per child but it is not guaranteed.

Applications accepted annually up to March 31.

Jumpstart

Sport Yukon is also a chapter member of the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program. Through Sport Yukon, the Canadian Tire Jumpstart can cover the fees associated with program or activity registration, or transportation costs (funded on a case by case basis). Up to $300 per child is available through the Jumpstart per year. For more information, please contact Sport Yukon at 668-4236.

Jamie Shaw Memorial Fund

The Jamie Shaw Memorial Foundation’s hope is to carry on the legacy set by Jamie. The Foundation will assist youth and coaches in the Yukon continue with their journey of personal development and life-long learning. The fund will assist with the financial cost of athlete and coach development, and provide direct financial assistance for athletes to attend competitions.

Funding opportunities:
Athletic Scholarship – $1,500 toward training and development.
Coaching Scholarship – $1,500 toward training and development.
Bursary for Athletic Trips – $500 toward school related athletic trips.

There are two application intakes. The first deadline is April 15th, and the second is October 15th.

Travel

In-Territory Travel Fund

In-Territory Travel provides a subsidy for participants and coaches from the communities who incur costs for travel to Arctic Winter Games trials, Yukon representative team travel and coach training opportunities, as well as travel for all in-territory Yukon championships.

Applications accepted annually up to March 31.

Athlete Participation Fund 

The Athlete Participation Fund provides up to $500 to help Yukon families manage the expenses of travel within and outside of the territory for representative Yukon athletes.

Applications for funding are recommended to be submitted two weeks prior to travel. Applications submitted after the time of travel may not be considered.

Indigenous

Canada Games Legacy Fund

To develop and support Yukon aboriginal athletes in the competition development stage by supporting and offsetting costs related to travel to Territorial, Provincial or National events. This program is designed to support the development of Yukon Aboriginal athletes by helping to ensure that they have the right skills and opportunities to achieve their goals.

Intake Dates
Intake 1) Applications must be received by January 31st (before 5:00 pm)
Intake 2) Applications must be received by May 31st (before 5:00 pm)

Snowboard Yukon Indigenous Sport Development Bursary

Snowboard Yukon would like to encourage and empower Indigenous youth to participate in the sport of snowboarding. Snowboard Yukon will provide free program enrollment for an Indigenous athlete whom is interested in pursuing snowboard training.

High Performance Athlete

Yukon Athlete High Performance Funding
The Yukon High Performance Athlete Assistance Program provides funding for athletes who have demonstrated performance beyond the territorial level with potential for improvement at the provincial, national, or international levels. Athletes may be eligible for up to $7,000 in funding per year.

Application deadline is generally mid-Apirl. This application requires a yearly training plan and several letters of endorsement, so applicants are strongly advised to begin filling in the form well in advance of the deadline  to receive proper support from their coach.

Air North GOAL Fund

Under this program, Air North provides Sport Yukon with thirty (30) flight segments in the form of travel certificates to be allocated to athletes who are members of Yukon Sport Governing Bodies (YSGBs). These flight segments entitle the athlete to travel for the purpose of competing in a recognized sporting event outside of the territory, including competitions, training, try-outs, and tournaments.

These travel certificates will be allocated to athletes at the choosing of Air North with consideration based on:

  • Caliber and/or significance of the event or training to the athlete’s sporting career
  • Other sources of funding available to the athlete
  • The athlete’s demonstrated commitment to:
    • Sport and healthy living
    • Community involvement
    • A yearly training program

Intake for this funding program occurs annually in August. Application will open August 1, 2023 and the deadline to apply is September 1, 2023.

Officials

Yukon Official High Performance Funding
The Yukon High Performance Official Assistance Program provides funding for officials to upgrade their training beyond what they can access in the territory.
