Snowboard Yukon is committed to facilitating programming across Yukon. On-snow facilities and local leadersip are key to these initiatives.

COVID-19 and Program Fees Pandemic Refund Policy

As uncertainty persists around COVID-19, programs will continue to follow protocols laid out the Government of Yukon and Canada Snowboard. Details will be shared as training begins.

For the 2021/22 season Snowboard Yukon (SY) will continue to offer a program fees refund if a program has been suspended due to COVID-19. If this occurs SY will provide a fees refund based on the remaining percentage of the program in progress to the participant. This refund will not cover interruptions to SY programs based on weather, or other non-COVID-19 related issues. The refund does not include membership fees.

Watson Lake Riders Camp (2 days)

Where: Mt. Maichen, Watson Lake, YT, Canada
When: March 5 & 6, 2022
What: Snowboard Yukon is proud to host our second annual two-day snowboard camp in Watson Lake! The camp is open to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders aged 10yrs+. Riders will be broken into groups based on skill and ability. The only caveat is that riders need to be able to use the t-bar.

Requirements:

  • Open to riders 10 years of age and older.
  • Open to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders.
  • Helmets are mandatory.
Time: 11am – 3pm Saturday and Sunday

Location: Mt. Maichen
Camp Fee: $40 + $20 Canada Snowboard Recreational membership

* These fees do not include equipment, hill passes or food.

*Applications can be submitted to the Kids Recreation Fund for additional funding support. The KRF provides lower income Yukon families an opportunity to apply for funding for their children to participate in sport and recreational activities.

Watson Lake Shredders

(Cancelled due to lack of interest, let’s try again next year!)

Watson Lake Shredders is a new on-snow snowboarding program for novice to intermediate riders focused on fun and improving snowboarding skills all over the mountain. Weekly training follows the national Riders curriculum and is presented by coaches certified by the Canadian Snowboard Coaching Program (CSCP). This program will provide riders with the opportunity to develop their riding abilities, learn mountain safety and etiquette, develop an understanding for the competitive nature of the sport, and enhance all around mental and physical strength.

Requirements:

  • Open to riders 12 years of age and older.
  • Open to intermediate and advanced riders (riders need to be able to get up the tow rope and maneuver most runs at Mt. Maichen.
  • As per Government of Yukon guidelines riders, and coaches12 years and older must show proof of vaccination. Please bring government-issued ID and proof of vaccination.
  • Helmets are mandatory.

Program will include:

  • 7-8 on-snow training sessions, which includes full access to the two-day spring break camp (March 5 & 6th);
  • two-day coached race camp/competition (date to be confirmed);
  • two-days coaching at Yukon Championships (April 2 & 3rd) at Mt. Sima, Whitehorse; and
  • 7 weekly sessions of strength and conditioning training (dryland) with an experienced trainer.

On-snow training will take place on Saturdays from 11-3pm or 12-4pm depending on hill operations, and may be modified depending on weather, volunteers, and night operations.

Time: 10:30am (sign in, rental pick-up (if needed), and lift ticket purchase),11:00am-3:00pm on-snow training, 3:30 pm pick-up.

Where: Mt. Maichen, Watson Lake

Camp Fee: $270 per rider + $30 Canada Snowboard Compete membership ($300 total)

* These fees do not include equipment, hill passes, food, or transportation/accommodation to Whitehorse. Fundraising and team travel planning will be decided based on interest.

Dawson Programs

3 day spring clinic- Dawson City @ Moose Mountain

Snowboard Yukon is proud to host a three day snowboard camp in Dawson City! Riders can register for 3 days of coaching. Join us for a fun spring extravaganza with Snowboard Yukon and their amazing coaches.

This year for the first time we will coach a 2 h lesson for adults only in the evening of Wednesday March 9 from about 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

No matter your age, ability or style, come and join us and get the best out of yourself and spring at Moose Mountain, the best little place in the north.

The camp is open to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders aged 10yrs+.

NOTE: Lift tickets and rentals are not included, so please plan accordingly. In addition, helmets are mandatory.

Requirements:

  • Riders must be 10 years of age or older.
  • As per Government of Yukon guidelines, riders 19 years and older must show proof of vaccination. Please bring government-issued ID and proof of vaccination.
  • Helmets are mandatory.

When: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, March 8, 9 & 10, 2022
Where: Moose Mountain, Dawson City
Welcome/Check-in: 12.30pm in the lodge – Intros, overview of the day and warm ups
Rentals/ticket office: 12.30pm, hopefully everyone has got their gear as rentals are limited and should be arranged before signing up.
Riding Time:1.00pm to 5.00pm on snow with a 30 minute snack/water break

Adult lesson: in the evening of March 9 starts at 5pm for sign in and riding time will be 5.30pm to approx. 7.30pm

Price: $60 3 day camp, $ 20 Adult beginner lesson only (Wed night)

Rentals and Lift Ticket are not included in the price.

Please bring appropriate warm clothing and something to eat or drink if needed

Spring Extravaganza Clinic

We are welcoming women, trans, non-binary and 2 spirited people to our 2 day spring clinic!

Suitable for beginners to advanced riders ages 10 and up, that have waited all winter to shred some soft and fun snow, or has been training hard all season and now wants to show off. A great way to spend some more time on the slopes with some great people and make new friends along the way, before the season comes to an end.

Requirements:

  • Riders must be 10 years of age or older.
  • As per Government of Yukon guidelines, riders 19 years and older must show proof of vaccination. Please bring a government-issued ID and proof of vaccination.
  • Helmets are mandatory.

When: Saturday & Sunday, March 26 and 27, 2022
Where: Mt. Sima
Welcome/Check-in: 10:30am in front of the Main Lodge – Intros, overview of the day and warm ups
Rentals/ticket office: 10:30am – for those needing to get rentals and lift tickets, you can do that after our Welcome/Check-in. For those who don’t need rentals, we’ll do a gear check during this time.
Riding Time: 11am to 4pm on snow with a 30 minute snack/water break
Apres get-together: 4pm: Join us for an apres riding beverage, snacks and laughs

Camp Fee: $60 (includes instruction for both days) + Canada Snowboard Membership (for insurance purposes),1 day option available

Fee does not include lift ticket, rental equipment or membership.

Whitehorse Shredders
(FULL)

Shredders is an on-snow snowboarding program for novice to intermediate riders focused on fun and improving snowboarding skills all over the mountain. Weekly training follows the national Riders curriculum and is presented by coaches certified by the Canadian Snowboard Coaching Program (CSCP). Shredders train in 3 skill-based groups — Green, Blue & Black. The coaches will determine which group suits you best. 

Requirements:

  • You must be 8 years old. 
  • You must also be able to load and unload the chairlift independently, stop, turn toeside and heelside while snowboarding under control on most runs at Mt. Sima. 

If you’re not quite ready for Shredders, we suggest signing up with the Mt. Sima Snow School.

Shredders is a pre-competition program and snowboarders are encouraged to participate with their teammates in fun race and freestyle events on select Sundays during the season. Coaching at Yukon Champs is also included in the program.
